The Choe Brothers – David, Steven and Alvin are avid toy collectors for more than 25 years. Then David, who is an IT online specialist, turned his attention to selling collectible toys on eBay. In early 2000 eBay was an international rage, where anybody can sell anything online. His past collection of limited-edition Hot Wheels diecasts selling on eBay was an immediate success. So were other toys too, like Transformers, Star Wars, McFarlane’s Spawn, Barbie dolls, Japanese vintage toys, DC & Marvel’s Superheroes as well as other trendy toys which went along as merchandises with international break-office record movies.

In early 2000, the Choe Brothers turned their hobby into a business venture. Their business strategy was simple. They focused on high end toys, collectibles, limited edition and international movie-theme toys. They left out the run-of-the-mill garden variety toys for the children market especially sold in departmental stores or other toy shops where their target was only for children.

Focusing on high end toys would also mean that their target market also expanded into the wider audience adult market.

They have found their niche in the toys market.

They opened their first retail shop at Amcorp Mall, Petaling Jaya in early 2000. In conjunction with a retail mall, they developed an online store (www.toygarden.net) and on social media Facebook/Instagram, where they have hundreds of thousands of followers.

Natural business progression, expansion and organic growth follow. They need a strikingly visible, popular, high pedestrian traffic and prestigious Mall for another outlet. They opened their flagship retail outlet at Pavilion Mall in mid-2010, right in the heart of the Golden Triangle Bukit Bintang Kuala Lumpur.

Now they are going places. They will be opening a warehouse with more than 10,000 sq feet of space for a warehouse in a commercial high-rise office lot in Chow Kit Road. This would be their logistic, delivery and display center to house their huge volume of toys.
